The passage of time affects us all, and our faces often bear the most visible signs of aging. Fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and jowls can detract from our youthful appearance and confidence. Fortunately, facial plastic surgery offers transformative solutions, and the facelift stands out as a powerful tool for turning back the clock.

The question is, how long do these results last? While gravity will continue to affect your face and body, a facelift will allow you to stay looking younger than you are as you age.

How Long Does a Facelift Last?

The good news about getting a facelift is that the results actually do last forever. The work of your surgeon will not be undone.

This does not mean that you will always look the way you do immediately following your facelift. Gravity will continue to take effect, and you will continue to age just like everyone else. However, you will continue to look around 10 years younger than you would otherwise and be likely to maintain an air of youthfulness for the rest of your life.

Extending the Results of a Facelift

Also keep in mind that there are steps you can take to optimize and enhance the results of your facelift. These steps involve a combination of proper skincare, healthy lifestyle choices, and in some cases additional cosmetic procedures.

  • Follow the aftercare instructions provided by your surgeon. Before you are discharged, you will receive written instructions from Dr. Ducic, guiding you through the aftercare and recovery process. Careful adherence to these guidelines is essential for preserving your facelift results.
  • Maintain a proper skincare regimen. Invest in high-quality skincare products recommended by the team at DFW Plastic Surgery. This may include moisturizers, serums, and sunscreens to keep your skin hydrated, rejuvenated, and safe from the sun.
  • Avoid sun damage. Speaking of which, damage from the sun is one of the leading causes of facial aging. Always wear broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and consider wearing hats or seeking shade when outdoors.
  • Stay away from cigarettes. Smoking can accelerate skin aging and compromise the healing process after surgery. If you smoke, quitting can significantly improve the longevity of your facelift results. At a minimum, we advise abstaining from smoking for a few weeks before and after your facelift.
  • Consider additional treatments. Depending on your aesthetic goals, non-invasive cosmetic treatments such as BOTOX, dermal fillers, laser therapy, or chemical peels can complement the results of your facelift.
